I thought it would be interesting to write a review on all the materials that I buy on eBay. Most of these materials are for cosplay purposes, but hopefully it will help other people who are interested in buying these items for different purposes too. As time goes on some of the links leading to the seller will not work, but you can easily find similar items online.
All of the photos (that I took) are unedited, and this post is full of pictures so it may take a moment to upload everything.
First up, the faux sunflowers for my Samurai Champloo group cosplay.
I got this for $1.82 from this seller from China. I thought it would be a good buy since the dollar stores around me don’t have any sunflowers, and they’re a bit pricey at Walmart. The item took around a month to get here to CA. Unfortunately, the tracking number that the seller sent didn’t work.
The package didn’t have much, then again it is only a faux flower.
Although I know not to expect the quality of the item as the seller posts online, the flowers were disappointing as the petals were wrongly glued to each other. I would probably have to do something drastic to that flower bulb, or just cut it out of the bouquet altogether. Hopefully, the seller can give me a partial refund for it.
Overall the flowers were a bit disappointing, but it’s nothing that time and effort can’t fix. (I’ll post a progress post on it)
I wasn’t sure what this was when I opened my mailbox.
Turns out they were the neodymium (strong earth) magnets that I ordered for strapping my armor!
I tend to use these in other crafts as well, so I ordered 40 pieces of it. Although I ordered a lot, the magnets are pretty small and need to be added next to each other to efficiently hold heavy parts. This cost me $3.78, and the seller didn’t include a tracking code, but all magnets are here and nothing seems broken (which happens).
I would post my own tutorial later, but this is a good video to see how magnets work to strap in your armor.
Normally I buy 7.5 US size for my shoes online. Sometimes the shoe runs small, so I have to compensate for it and buy up a size or a half size. So I was a bit disappointed when the online store only had sizes 7 and below in their stock.
I bought this for my cosplay of Samurai Champloo, but I’m going to use it in real life too. So I got the cheapest pair and the most casual color that can go with my other clothes. I’m ok with keeping the shoes black, but if I decide that it clashes with my costume, I might re-color it light brown using paint and mod-podge.
The tracking number didn’t work (what’s up with the bogus tracking numbers?) and the item arrived in a month.
If you’re interested in buying shoes on eBay, this website is super helpful as many eBay sellers use Asian or European sizes.
My foot isn’t the prettiest (I don’t care what my foot looks like) but here are the photos of me wearing the shoes.
They look pretty good, except that some part of my foot don’t all fit into the back of the shoe.
However, it doesn’t feel weird when I walk so it’s probably fine. (I’ll have to wear it for a while to see if it does any damage to me)
By looking at the quality of the foam, I know that this pair of shoes probably won’t last long. So I’m going to using this pair mainly for the backyard.
When I was looking around for a pink tulle trim to use for my Asuna cosplay, I was thinking something like this. for the trim A ribbon trim with lace on the end. (The costume design is fanmade, so the design is different from the original.)
However, it wasn’t available for the width that I wanted so I bought something that looked similar. Again the tracking number didn’t work, and it took a month to ship.
White shapeless eBay packaging…
Tada! Ok, looking at it IRL it looks a bit tacky as the sparkles only go for 2 inches leaving a 2-inch blank space and then repeating over again. However, it’s nothing a few ruffles in the right place won’t fix. The color was a bit paler than it was in the photos. But it looked pretty good for the cost.
Last package opened! This time, the tracking code worked and the shipping time was one week. (Probably because it’s a US seller) I got 10 yards of while elastics to use for armor strapping (mostly for shin and elbow) and costumes (waistband and armbands).
As you can see, they’re just normal 1 inch elastic tightly wrapped inside a ziplock bag.
The quality was pretty good; I didn’t see anything unraveling or wrongly knit. However, the thickness was a bit thinner than what I initially thought. I’m just going to use this for armor strapping and light elastic needs, it doesn’t look like it can handle a heavyweight skirt.
So that’s it for this month’s eBay review. I hope that this post has been helpful to you!
